The Department of Veterinary Medicine consists of Departmental members with expertise in Large animal, Avian, Small animal, Fish and Aquatic animals, Porcine and Wildlife Medicine and Veterinary entrepreneurship. They apply these skills to a wide range of research and novel contribution to knowledge in Veterinary sciences. The Department administers the Veterinary science undergraduate concentration within the DVM curriculum. Additionally, the Department are members of the Faculty postgraduate teaching staff collaborating with other Departments for the staff development empowerment trainings as well as M.Sc. and Ph.D. degree programmes.
The department is committed to the University’s mission of teaching, learning, research, staff empowerment, community development and Veterinary services in the field of Veterinary sciences. It is aimed at producing men and women who are well-trained in all facets of Veterinary profession with the main purpose of meeting national and international needs in the area of Veterinary research and innovations in use of high-quality diagnostic tools and management of animal diseases. Train students to be self-reliant in the field of veterinary sciences, public health and preventive medicine. Produce students who are adequately prepared for postgraduate work
